#YOUCANTOO⚡️ LILA the art director who rides for freedom !
You Can Too: An NGNM series of inspirational stories from everyday women.
Today’s story is about Lila, an art director who loves cycling in the mountains, from Andorra to the Dolomites.
Lila rides for freedom. She's a climber at heart who likes getting lost on solo rides to find new ways.
Ever fancied trying a different style of riding? Why not try it? #YouCanToo⚡
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome? - Whether that’s mentally or physically
Finishing my first bike race was my biggest challenge, I was surprised by the psycho-motor sensations I felt, no matter how much I trained.. I was not prepared for all those sensations.
It was like dying and being reborn at the same time.
What 3 words would you use to describe cycling?
Freedom
Pain
Emotions
We all have a person who we look up to or inspires us in cycling, who is that person for you? (A person you know or don't know, fictional, real…you pick)
I was never a great cycling expert, but I fell in love with the stories of the great cyclists of the past.
I was moved by the story of Bartali in 1943 who saved over 800 people with a transportation he knew well: his bicycle.
If you could change one thing about cycling, what would it be?
The bicycle is female. Yet in the cycling world, there’s too much space to men, and women are still addressed as “pink quotas”. I really hate it. Fortunately things seem to change in recent years, but it’s up to us women to join forces and speak louder. We’re here!
What's your "specialty" (climbing, long distance, sprints, cobblestones, short fast courses, criterium, multi day stages. etc)
I’d always considered myself as a climber, but in the last year I’ve discovered that I’m better over medium distances and sprints... It’s only over time and by training right, that we understand where we shine.
Do you ride solo? If yes, how did you do it the first time? (did you plan the route ahead of time, or did a route you knew, or had a Garmin with maps or else?)
I prefer to ride in company, but …if I have to go out alone, I prefer to count on my sense of direction and get lost in order to find new ways ☺ !
You see another woman cyclist coming your way you...:
- say hello and smile
- look the other way,
- nod
- scream hell yeah!
Say hello with a big smile, or scream hell yeah!
